Join Us - NWMRA

In addition to the volunteer responders who form the members of our nine teams, we also require specialist skills from time to time to help with day-to-day business and oversight.

This includes in roles such as administration, financial management and fund raising, communications, and technical matters. We also have a board of Trustees who provide oversight and scrutiny of our work.

You do not need to be a mountain rescue responder to support us with these roles – just share our passion for the great outdoors and helping people to enjoy and benefit from it safely, and be willing to volunteer a couple of hours of your time each week to achieve that.

You will find details of currently vacant roles below.

Regional Grants Officer

The money that pays for mountain rescue services comes primarily through fund raising. The role of the Grants Officer is to advise and support the Fund Raising Officers within each of our nine teams in seeking access to the funding essential for us to continue our work.

This entails helping the team Fund Raising Officers prepare grant applications, as well as identifying potential external funding opportunities.

We are looking for someone with good organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, the ability to work independently while staying connected to a wider team, and with experience in grant writing, fundraising, or administration.

Closing date for applications is Monday 22 June 2026.

Regional Social Media Officer

Demand on mountain rescue teams continues to rise year on year, and almost two thirds of our callouts involve people not always fully understanding the risks involved and the preparation required before setting out for a day in the great outdoors.

Communications are key to sharing information which can help people make more informed choices, and your work as Social Media Officer will not only help to keep people from risk of harm, reduce demand on our responders, but also potentially help to save a life.

We are looking for someone willing to donate a few hours a week to curate our social media channels, and develop and post content which helps to explain who we are, what we do, and that all important safety messaging.

You will have experience in designing and delivering social media-based communications for an organisation, and an understanding of data protection when posting about live incidents or casualties. The role works alongside the Regional Media Officer, and will also support the work of the Social Media Officers within our nine teams.
